National Pukyong University Cultivates Young Trade Talents

National Pukyong National University (President Jang Young-su) has been selected for the Glocal Trade Experts incubating Program (GTEP), a regional specialized youth trade expert training project, by the Department of Trade, Industry and Energy.

The GTEP project, hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and operated by the Korea International Trade Association, is an industry-academia cooperation program that cultivates young trade talents specialized in global and local markets.

This GTEP project aims to select 40 university students annually for three years from 2024 to 2026, nurturing them into young trade experts capable of conducting export marketing and e-commerce activities in overseas specialized regions based on trade practical knowledge and field training experience.

Participants will receive a total of 600 hours of education in trade theory and practice, and gain opportunities to earn academic credits through domestic and international field training and participation in overseas fairs and exhibitions.

Participants are supported with tuition and training fees for basic education and field training courses, and upon completion, they receive a trade expert certificate from the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, a certificate of completion from the Korea International Trade Association, as well as employment support and other benefits.

Pukyong National University was selected for this project with a business strategy specialized in the Southeast Asia region and will receive approximately 120 million KRW annually for three years. A total of 20 universities, including existing participating universities and new university project teams, were selected for this project.

Professor Ahn Tae-geon, head of the PKNU YTP GTEP project team at the Department of International Trade at Pukyong National University, said, “We plan to discover outstanding students and nurture young trade experts connecting global and local regions through specialized education in the Southeast Asia region, trade practice, smart logistics simulation, and the use of e-commerce platforms.”

Chief advisor Professor Yoo Jeong-ho said, “To overcome the era of global economic recession and global supply chain crisis, we will strive to equip young trade experts with youthful and healthy energy with online marketing skills, digital trade capabilities, utilization of FTAs, and the ability to respond to non-tariff trade barriers.”
