Seo Kyung-duk: "Japan Has Not Received Proper History Education"

Professor Seo Kyung-duk of Sungshin Women's University sharply criticized this, saying, "This happened because Japanese people have not received proper history education."

On the 27th, Professor Seo said through his SNS, "Han So-hee posted several photos along with a message on her SNS, and it seems that the photo of Ahn Jung-geun among them caused controversy in Japan."

He continued, "Earlier this year, when the musical film 'Hero,' which deals with the story of Ahn Jung-geun, was successfully screened, there was a major controversy on Japanese SNS as they regarded Ahn Jung-geun as a 'terrorist.' Such comment attacks on Han So-hee and the absurd reactions of Japanese netizens to 'Hero' are also due to the lack of proper history education," he said. He also added, "This is the result of the Japanese government not implementing correct history education."

Professor Seo explained, "Former Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga once praised Ahn Jung-geun as a 'terrorist who assassinated Japan's first Prime Minister and was sentenced to death' when the Ahn Jung-geun Memorial Hall opened in China in 2014, receiving acclaim from Japanese right-wing forces."

Additionally, Professor Seo mentioned K-content, saying, "Since K-dramas and K-films are gaining worldwide attention, it seems they are afraid that their historical mistakes will be properly exposed globally."

Earlier, Han So-hee, who appeared in the Netflix original series Gyeongseong Creature, posted on her SNS on the 25th a photo of Ahn Jung-geun along with the message: "Not the romance of Gyeongseong, but the story of those times?brilliant yet dark?when people faced monsters born from experiments that turned humans into mere tools, not creatures under Japanese colonial rule. That spring, only by embracing each other with love could they become strong."

Following this, Japanese netizens continued to criticize Han So-hee for posting the Ahn Jung-geun photo. They expressed negative reactions such as, "I didn't expect someone as influential as Han So-hee to do this," "Korea is teaching incorrect history," "Ahn Jung-geun is a terrorist," "This is blatant anti-Japan," and "She posted the photo without considering the feelings of Japanese people."

Meanwhile, Gyeongseong Creature is a thriller drama set in 1945, just before Japan's defeat in World War II, depicting two youths whose survival is everything as they confront monsters born from greed. Inspired by the biological experiments of Unit 731, the series features creatures. The series ranked first domestically within its first week of release on the 22nd and placed third in Netflix's global Top 10 non-English category. It also appeared in the Top 10 lists of 20 countries including Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, India, and the Philippines.
