Police University Institute of Security Policy, Publishes 'Security Network 2024'

The Police University Institute of Security Policy announced on the 27th that it has published ‘Security Outlook 2024,’ which scientifically predicts changes in the security environment for the coming year and proposes directions for the police to establish security policies in various fields accordingly.

The Institute of Security Policy has been publishing the ‘Security Outlook’ every December since 2012 to explore changes in the security environment for the following year and suggest effective response strategies by field, serving as a reference for the National Police Agency’s policy direction to protect the safety and human rights of the public.

In this year’s ‘Security Outlook 2024,’ the ‘Major Achievements in Security Activities’ over the past year were reviewed, and using BigKinds analysis with keywords such as ‘police,’ ‘security,’ ‘crime,’ ‘incident,’ and ‘accident,’ related news from central daily newspapers and broadcasting stations throughout the year was examined to select the ‘Top 10 Security Issues’ of 2023.

The police identified the following as this year’s security issues: △ successive abnormal motive crimes △ large-scale charter fraud crimes △ the Suwon infant murder and refrigerator abandonment case △ infringement of teacher’s authority and teacher suicide cases △ drug beverage intimidation incidents in the Daechi-dong academy district △ flooding accident in the underground passage in Osong, Chungbuk △ poor construction of newly built apartments △ live broadcast of middle school student sexual harassment and assault incidents in Daegu △ illegal stock trading chat rooms △ production of child sexual exploitation materials using artificial intelligence (AI).

Next, the factors of ‘changes and developments in the security environment’ for the coming year were reviewed, and practical response measures that the police should prepare for during this period of change, when the police’s future vision, intergenerational communication, and new values are emerging, were presented. Additionally, the security situation for next year was forecasted by dividing it into fields such as criminal investigation, public safety, social stability, and security/foreign affairs, and the police’s functional response measures and security policy directions were introduced.
