Some say "Are you really supporting sincerely?"

Rapper Noel (Jang Yong-jun), the son of People Power Party lawmaker Jang Je-won, has declared his support for the Democratic Party, drawing attention to the background of this announcement.

On the 26th, Noel posted a brief message on his SNS thread saying, "I support the Democratic Party." The post consisted of just one sentence, with no mention of the background or reasons. It is difficult to determine whether it was sincere or a joke. The reason Noel's declaration of support for the Democratic Party has attracted public attention is that he is the only son of Jang Je-won, a close aide to President Yoon Seok-yeol.

Recently, Lawmaker Jang announced that he will not run in the 2024 general election for his constituency, Sasang in Busan. At a press conference on the 12th where he declared his withdrawal, Jang said, "I am leaving now. I ask you to step on me and achieve victory in the general election to make the Yoon Seok-yeol administration successful," adding, "I want to rest a bit." Currently, Noel's thread account is inactive, leading some to doubt whether Noel truly supports the Democratic Party.

Jang Je-won has caused multiple controversies related to his son

Noel has attracted public attention through various controversies. In 2017, at age 18, he appeared on the Mnet entertainment program "High School Rapper." However, before and after the broadcast, he caused issues on his SNS accounts, leading him to issue an apology and withdraw from the show. At that time, Lawmaker Jang was affiliated with the Bareun Party but stepped down from his party spokesperson and Busan city party chairman positions following Noel's incident.

In 2019, Noel was sentenced to two years of probation after causing a drunk driving traffic accident in Mapo-gu, Seoul, and attempting to switch drivers. Later, in 2021, he caused another collision while driving without a license in Seoul. For this incident, Noel received a one-year prison sentence, and Lawmaker Jang resigned from his position as the general director of Yoon Seok-yeol's campaign at that time.

Moreover, Noel has caused controversies several times related to his father, Lawmaker Jang. In March, he captured a TV screen showing Jang engaged in a heated argument in the National Assembly and posted it on SNS with the comment, "I feel like vomiting," indirectly criticizing his father.

In June, he exchanged insults via DM (Instagram direct messages) with a netizen, calling them "your great-grandfather Lee Wan-yong," and when the other party responded with "your father Jang Je-won," he immediately replied, "I lost."
