Crowd Concerns on January 1: Seonyugyo Bridge Closed from 6 AM, First 500 Sunrise Visitors Admitted
Wristbands Distributed on Site, Viewing Sunrise in Zones Matching Wristband Colors
On-Site Inspections, Safety Personnel Deployment, and Fence Installation for Crowd Safety Management
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will take proactive safety measures to ensure that visitors who come to Seonyugyo Bridge at dawn on New Year's Day can safely watch the sunrise.
Seonyugyo Bridge is considered a representative New Year's sunrise viewing spot. As many visitors are expected to gather again this year, perfect safety measures for sunrise watchers will be implemented.
First, the district will conduct a preliminary on-site inspection together with Yeongdeungpo Fire Station, Seonyudo Park Management Office, and related departments. To prevent crowd accidents, they will carefully check for narrow or steep areas and ensure that emergency vehicle access routes are secured, and install safety fences in various locations.
Next, the Seonyugyo viewing area will be divided into pink, purple, and green zones, and access to Seonyugyo Bridge will be controlled from 6 a.m. on January 1. At the comprehensive situation room under Seonyugyo Bridge, starting from 6:30 a.m., bracelets matching the colors of the viewing zones will be distributed to the first 500 visitors on a first-come, first-served basis, guiding visitors to watch the sunrise in the zone corresponding to their bracelet color. This is to prevent crowds from concentrating in one area. Visitors who do not receive a bracelet can watch the sunrise at Yanghwa Hangang Park beneath Seonyugyo Bridge.
The pedestrian overpass stairs and ramps connecting Yangpyeong 2-dong and Yanghwa Hangang Park will be freely accessible. However, to prevent possible accidents and bottlenecks, safety fences will be installed and safety measures such as one-way traffic will be implemented.
Additionally, a medical support team will be operated for quick response in emergencies, and safety management personnel will be stationed at intervals of 30 to 50 meters.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “We are taking proactive safety measures so that residents can safely welcome the first sunrise of the Gapjin year,” and added, “We will continue to prioritize residents’ safety by maintaining vigilance during the remaining period and focusing all efforts on preliminary inspections and on-site management.”
