Jungnang Residents Greet the First Sunrise of 2024 at Yongmasan Mountain

Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) offers a meaningful time for residents to enjoy the first sunrise of the new year and wish for their health and happiness.

To celebrate the ‘Year of the Blue Dragon, Gapjin Year 2024,’ the district will hold a sunrise event at Yongmasan 5-boru at 7 a.m. on January 1st.

Yongmasan is a mountain located on the border of Myeonmok-dong, Gwangjin-gu, and Guri City, featuring the Seoul Dulle-gil and Jungnang Dulle-gil trails, making it a popular spot for residents throughout the four seasons. Among these, ‘Yongmasan 5-boru’ is noted as a sunrise viewing spot because it offers a panoramic view from Mangusan to Achasan and is the first place in Seoul to see the sunrise.

Especially, this event held at Yongmasan 5-boru is even more meaningful as it is the first time in four years since the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute, the sunrise on New Year’s Day 2024 is expected at 7:47 a.m. Around this time, various side events such as celebratory performances, health and happiness wish performances for residents, and experience and viewing booths will be prepared.

First, at 7:10 a.m., before the sunrise, a pre-ceremony event will feature a lively performance by the folk art group ‘Gugung’ and the mixed-gender quartet ‘Attirang Voice,’ performing energetic songs to cheer on a vigorous start to the new year.

After the pre-ceremony, all attendees will shout a sunrise countdown together to welcome the hopeful sunrise. Following this, a powerful traditional drum performance, three cheers of “Manse,” and a light balloon performance carrying residents’ New Year wishes will take place consecutively.

Additionally, various side events such as writing New Year wish cards, sharing traditional tea, a photo zone with the ‘Blue Dragon Character Doll,’ and traditional game experiences will be available.

Jungnang-gu is fully committed to residents’ safety through a thorough safety management plan before the event. To prevent various risks, joint safety inspections of the event site are conducted with related organizations such as the police and fire stations. On the day of the event, safety personnel will be intensively deployed throughout the venue to strengthen systematic order maintenance.
