Daiso Launches Capsule Coffee
Price Per Unit 300~500 Won
Daiso, a uniform-priced household goods store famous for its cost-effective products, has attracted attention by launching 'capsule coffee' that is cheaper than regular capsules.
Recently, Daiso released the 'Swen Capsule Coffee' product and announced the news through social networking services (SNS) and other channels.
The capsule coffees offered by Daiso are the 'Geisha Blend' and 'Arabica Blend.' Each blend is available in varieties such as Colombia, Guatemala, Ethiopia, or Light, Mild, and Dark, allowing consumers to choose from a wide range of flavors according to their preferences. The 'Geisha Blend' costs 5,000 won for 10 capsules, while the 'Arabica Blend' is 3,000 won for 10 capsules. This means the price per capsule ranges from 300 to 500 won. This price is cheaper compared to the market price of capsule coffee, drawing consumer interest.
Netizens responded with comments such as "Daiso's prices are reasonable and understandable," "Shopping at Daiso is more fun than at department stores or marts. There are many practical and creative products. However, since it is low-priced, one should not expect high quality," and "I like going to Daiso because it’s not burdensome." In addition, Daiso sells coffee drippers, coffee filters, and coffee sticks for home cafe enthusiasts to brew ground coffee.
Meanwhile, despite the high inflation situation, Daiso has consistently gained popularity by selling affordable products priced between 500 and 5,000 won. While it used to focus mainly on essential household items, it has recently expanded its product categories to cosmetics and clothing. In particular, Daiso's cosmetic product 'VT Liddleshot' gained popularity through word of mouth, leading to daily sell-out situations. Last month, Daiso also attracted attention by launching a '5,000 won fleece.'
Riding on its popularity, Daiso recorded sales of 2.9458 trillion won and an operating profit of 239.3 billion won last year. Daiso recently acquired shares in a Japanese company and has been making various attempts, such as revamping its online mall 'Daisomall' and starting next-day delivery services.
