Nowon-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will operate the '2024 Nowon Snow Sledding Park,' a winter attraction for the whole family to enjoy, starting from January 1, 2024.
The district's representative winter sports project, 'Nowon Snow Sledding Park,' is a winter theme park created so that people of all ages can relax near their homes without having to travel far to the outskirts of Seoul. Last year, about 60,000 visitors enjoyed the sledding park during its operation period. It was extremely popular, with around 22,000 visitors (31%) coming from other regions.
Encouraged by this support, the district has prepared an even richer program for the opening of the '2024 Nowon Snow Sledding Park.' This year’s sledding park will be held at the comprehensive stadium within Seoul National University of Science and Technology.
It will operate from January 1 to 31, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, except for closures on the 4th, 5th, 17th, and 18th.
Admission is free for Nowon-gu residents, SeoulTech students and staff, and children under 36 months. Visitors from other regions will be charged an entrance fee of 2,000 KRW. Proof of residence such as an ID card must be presented upon entry for verification.
The experience facilities include ▲large and small snow sledding slopes ▲ice rink ▲snow playground ▲smelt fishing ▲game play zone ▲traditional experience area, among others.
The main snow sledding slopes will be separated into large adult slopes and small children’s slopes for safety starting this year. The large slope features a total length of 90 meters with 10 lanes, while the small slope has a length of 45 meters with 6 lanes. Visitors slide down using dedicated tubes, which are available free of charge without any rental fee.
The ice rink measures 30m by 20m and operates seven times a day in one-hour cycles (45 minutes operation - 15 minutes break) to maintain ice quality. Skate and protective gear rental costs 2,000 KRW per session. The snow playground is a large 40m by 40m snow play area where visitors can build snowmen and snow ducks or enjoy free plastic sled rentals.
The popular smelt fishing experience from last year will be held again this year. The participation fee is 4,000 KRW, allowing families to catch smelt using nets together. Visitors who catch smelt can take them to the indoor snack bar to enjoy freshly fried smelt for 3,000 KRW. According to a satisfaction survey of 360 visitors last year, smelt fishing was the most favored among the auxiliary facilities.
Additionally, a game play zone and traditional experience zone will be operated. Facilities include an instant photo studio, 4D video experience room, VR experience rooms (single and six-seater), and arcade games such as hand hockey and basketball. Traditional games like Yutnori, Tuho throwing, Jegichagi, and Dalgona candy making are also available. A rest area is provided as a parent lounge, and the snack bar sells ramen, pork cutlets, fried chicken, tteokbokki, and beverages.
The district plans to pay extra attention to safety as large crowds are expected during the school vacation. A total of 29 safety personnel certified in CPR and first aid will be stationed at the play facilities, and a separate medical room will be operated. Daily inspections of facility safety, food hygiene, and venue cleanliness will be conducted regularly. Liability insurance for sports facilities has also been secured.
An opening ceremony will be held at noon on January 1. At 12:30 p.m., visitors can enjoy a congratulatory performance by figure skating national team standby members Yeon Chae-ju and Jo Ye-eun.
Furthermore, on February 1, the day after closing, the sledding park will open for one day exclusively for families with disabled members who usually have difficulty accessing play facilities. The district also held an event for families with disabled members on the closed days of the 'Nowon Water Park' operated last summer.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “To allow the whole family to enjoy outdoor winter activities and heal near their homes, we have expanded the scale this year and set up the snow sledding park at the Seoul National University of Science and Technology stadium. I would like to thank the university officials for their cooperation, and above all, we will ensure perfect safety.”
