Actor Lee Seon-gyun (48), who is suspected of drug use, returned home in the early morning after undergoing an intensive 19-hour overnight investigation.
According to the police on the 24th, the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division of the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency summoned Lee as a suspect the previous day to investigate him on charges related to marijuana and psychotropic substances under the Narcotics Control Act.
This investigation was the third, following the first on October 28 when he only underwent a drug test and went home, and the second on the 4th of last month when he gave a statement for about three hours. As the investigation, which started around 10 a.m. the previous day, extended, the police obtained Lee’s consent and conducted the late-night investigation until 5 a.m. that day.
The "Human Rights Protection Rules for Police Investigations" prohibit questioning suspects or persons involved in cases between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., which are considered late-night and early morning hours. However, if the nature of the case makes late-night investigation unavoidable, it may proceed with the suspect’s consent.
After completing the third investigation, Lee told reporters, "Although it is a bit late, today I finished the complainant investigation as a victim of the (extortion case)," adding, "I now ask the police to carefully judge which side’s statements, mine or the extortionists’, are credible."
When asked, "Do you admit to the drug use charges?" he replied, "I sincerely explained everything during today’s police investigation."
The police first investigated Lee on the drug use charges and then took victim statements regarding the case in which he filed a complaint against two people, including A (29, female), a manager at an entertainment establishment, on extortion charges.
Earlier, Lee had filed a complaint against A and another person on extortion charges, claiming, "I was threatened and extorted for 350 million won in connection with this case." A claimed, "I was also threatened via social networking services (SNS) by someone suspicious of my relationship with Lee," adding, "I do not know who that person is."
The police recently identified an accomplice of A, who is suspected of extortion, and confirmed that they have applied for a pre-trial detention warrant.
