District to offer VR, 3D Printer, and Drone Experience Education for Elementary and Middle School Students during Winter Break starting January 5... Three Programs: 'VR Textbook Journey,' '3D Art Workshop,' and 'Our World through Drones'
Seocho-gu has prepared fun and enriching digital education programs for elementary and middle school students during the winter vacation.
Students will learn through VR, learn how to use 3D printers, and even try drone operation.
Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) is organizing the ‘Seocho Winter Coding Camp,’ which will take place starting January 5 next year.
Since 2021, the district has held ‘Coding Camps’ every vacation, and during last summer vacation, a total of 370 participants took part in ChatGPT and coding education, receiving great responses. This winter vacation, the program is more substantial by incorporating curriculum-based education rather than just simple experiential learning.
The education will be held free of charge for a total of 4 weeks from January 5 next year, divided into three themes: ‘Textbook Journey with VR’ at Seocho Youth Center (located in Seocho-dong), ‘3D Art Workshop’ at Yangjae Naegok Education Support Center (located in Yangjae-dong), and ‘Our World Seen by Drones’ at Banpo Jamwon Education Support Center (located in Banpo-dong).
First, ‘Textbook Journey with VR’ uses VR devices to conduct exploratory learning in subjects such as history, mathematics, and science. Students will explore the solar system and geology and visit vivid historical sites from prehistoric times to the Joseon Dynasty. The education is divided by grade level according to the students’ proficiency and will be conducted from January 9 to 19 for a total of 32 classes and 320 students.
Next, ‘3D Art Workshop’ allows students to create their own ▲stamps ▲bookmarks ▲phone cases ▲name tags using 3D printers, creating lasting memories. This program consists of 6 classes for 90 elementary school students and will be held from January 17 to 27.
Lastly, ‘Our World Seen by Drones’ includes drone safety education, operation training, takeoff and landing practice, and course navigation. It consists of 6 classes for 120 elementary and middle school students and will be held from January 5 to 17.
Applications are open on a first-come, first-served basis through the Seocho-gu Education Support Center website and Seocho Youth Center website for elementary and middle school students residing in the area. Detailed information such as schedules can be found on the Seocho-gu Education Support Center website or the KakaoTalk channel ‘Seocho Future Education District.’
Jeon Seong-su, Mayor of Seocho-gu, said, “I hope elementary and middle school students have a more enjoyable winter vacation through the Seocho Winter Coding Camp,” and added, “We will continue to prepare diverse and beneficial programs so that students can grow into future-oriented talents suitable for the Fourth Industrial Revolution era.”
