Rachmaninoff Concerto in Incheon on the 26th and Daegu on the 27th
Piano Quintets by Schumann and Brahms at Seoul Arts Center on the 28th
Russian prodigy pianist Alexander Malofeev returns to Korea after more than a year to perform Rachmaninoff's piano works and chamber music by Schumann and Brahms over three days.
Malofeev is scheduled to perform on the 26th at Art Center Incheon, the 27th at Daegu Concert House, and the 28th at Seoul Arts Center.
At the Incheon and Daegu concerts, he will take the stage in the first half to perform Rachmaninoff's "Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini" and "Piano Concerto No. 2." He will collaborate with the Millennium Symphony Orchestra conducted by Choi Young-sun.
When Malofeev visited Korea last October, he performed Rachmaninoff's Piano Concertos No. 1 and 3 with the Prime Philharmonic Orchestra. At that time, another pianist performed Piano Concerto No. 2, but this time Malofeev will perform it himself.
In the second half of the Incheon and Daegu concerts, Ilya Rashkovsky, an invited professor at Sungshin Women's University College of Music, will perform Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3.
At the Seoul Arts Center concert, Malofeev will perform chamber music, including Schumann's Piano Quintet and Brahms' Piano Quintet. He will be accompanied by the Abel Quartet, Korea's top string quartet.
Born in Moscow in 2001, Malofeev has been recognized as a piano prodigy from a young age, showcasing outstanding technique, mature expression, and a clear tone. At 13, he gained international recognition by winning the Tchaikovsky Young Artists International Music Competition in 2014. Currently, he is one of the busiest young pianists, performing with master conductors such as Riccardo Chailly, Mikhail Pletnev, Christian J?rvi, Valery Gergiev, and Myung-whun Chung.
