Robotis, Autonomous Driving Robot 'Gaemi' Expands into Guam

Robotis, Autonomous Driving Robot 'Gaemi' Expands into Guam Autonomous mobile robot 'Gaemi' by ROBOTIS.

Autonomous driving robot specialist Robotis announced on the 22nd that it has signed an official operation agreement for the indoor autonomous driving robot 'Gaemi' at The Westin Resort Guam, accelerating its overseas expansion.

Gaemi currently provides delivery services for hotel operations within The Westin Resort Club Lounge. It identifies the optimal route to accurately deliver completed food and beverages and collects empty dishes to carry them back to the kitchen. The local hotel industry in Guam has given positive evaluations of autonomous driving robots as a solution to the ongoing rise in labor costs and labor shortages.

The local Guam media KUAM NEWS reported that the resort's promotional staff said the introduction of Gaemi helps with efficient routing and smooth store operations, and that the robot performs the role of 1.5 employees. Gaemi has been in official operation since the 20th of last month, and plans to expand basic room services requiring inter-floor movement, such as lobby guidance and delivery of various amenities.

Gaemi can move between floors independently using a 'robot arm' without communication linkage with the elevator. It can operate elevator buttons, tag security cards, and knock on rooms, making it an optimized product for contactless services in hotels, hospitals, and public facilities.

Robotis began its overseas market entry with the Japanese hotel The Rise Hotel Kitashinchi in May and is focusing on finding partners to pioneer markets in Japan, North America, and other regions.

Kim Byung-su, CEO of Robotis, said, “As labor costs rise and labor shortages worsen in major countries such as Japan and the United States, the need for service robots is emerging as a future business. Robotis, a domestic native company, is expected to secure global competitiveness based on its own technology and create a new turning point in the autonomous driving robot market.”
