Geochang-gun Honored with the Grand Prize for International Exchange at the 11th Hallyu Awards

Only Municipality Nationwide to Receive Award for Contributions to Geochang International Theater Festival

Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 22nd that it received the 'International Exchange Award' at the 2023 11th Korea Hallyu Awards ceremony held at the Baekbeom Memorial Hall.

The 2023 11th Korea Hallyu Awards is the only domestic and international Hallyu-related grand prize hosted by the National Assembly's Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee Chairman and organized by the Hallyu Culture Industry Forum, which has been driving the continuation of the Hallyu wave. It is a prestigious awards ceremony supported by the Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee, Seoul Metropolitan Government, and Korea Tourism Organization.

Geochang-gun Wins the Grand Prize for International Exchange at the 11th Hallyu Awards.

The purpose of this awards ceremony is to discover and widely publicize domestic and international recipients who have contributed to the development of Hallyu or played a role in the domestic and international spread of Hallyu culture or industry through outstanding activities during the year 2023.

At the ceremony, awards were presented to a total of 28 recipients across 7 categories, including the International Exchange Award won by Geochang-gun, as well as awards for Traditional Culture, Popular Culture, and Cultural Tourism.

For over 30 years, Geochang-gun has introduced excellent overseas performance teams to Korea through the Geochang International Theater Festival and continuous exchanges, thereby introducing foreign performance culture domestically. Especially this year, the Geochang Cultural Foundation elevated the status of the local government by widely promoting Korean culture and arts through attracting and exchanging with outstanding overseas performance teams from around the world. Additionally, Geochang-gun contributed to the spread of Hallyu culture and the globalization of Hallyu, and was recognized for these achievements, becoming the only local government nationwide to receive this honor this year.

Gu In-mo, the county governor, said, “We are pleased that our efforts over the past 30 years for the Geochang International Theater Festival have been recognized externally through this award. We will continue to spare no support and effort to help the Geochang International Theater Festival grow into a world-class international theater festival.”
