Future-Oriented Aerospace Specialization Business Model Development Strategy

The Gyeongnam Sacheon Aerospace Specialization Foundation held a policy forum commemorating its establishment at the city hall auditorium, attended by over 200 participants from the aerospace industry, academia, research institutions, and government agencies.

Co-hosted by the Aerospace Specialization Foundation, the Korea Public Consulting Society, Sacheon City in Gyeongnam, and the office of National Assembly member Ha Young-je, this forum was organized to contribute to the creation of a regionally tailored aerospace industry cluster aimed at successfully launching the Gyeongnam Sacheon Aerospace Agency.

At the forum held on the 21st, Shin Man-hee, Head of Strategic Planning at the Aerospace Industry Promotion Association; Ok Ju-seon, Head of Aerospace at Gyeongnam Technopark; and Kwon Jin-hoe, Professor of Aerospace Software Engineering at Gyeongsang National University, delivered a keynote presentation titled .

Sacheon Aerospace Specialized Foundation Holds Founding Anniversary Policy Debate Conference Sacheon Aerospace Specialized Foundation is conducting a policy discussion on the strategy for establishing a future-oriented aerospace specialization business model.

Additionally, designated discussants included Shin Sang-jun, Head of the Future Flight Research Lab at KAI; Chae Jong-dae, Head of Technology at KT SAT; Song Seong-chan, Director of the Satellite Research Institute at Hanwha Systems; and Jeong Jin-taek, Dean of the Graduate School of Knowledge Service Consulting at Hansung University.

They focused their discussions on discovering future-oriented aerospace specialization business models and establishing a comprehensive professional workforce supply system necessary for related technology development, manufacturing, and operations, as well as on implementation plans to attract domestic and international aerospace specialized companies.

Last year, the government proposed the establishment of an Aerospace Agency as a national agenda item, tasked with policy coordination across ministries and leveraging private sector expertise in the aerospace industry.

In particular, by presidential decree, an Aerospace Agency Establishment Promotion Team was set up to carry out preparatory work for the agency’s establishment, including defining the mission of the cross-ministerial aerospace development organization and legislating implementation plans.

However, the Special Act on the Establishment and Operation of the Aerospace Agency, which serves as the legal basis for the agency’s establishment, has yet to pass through the National Assembly.

In response, the Aerospace Specialization Foundation plans to hold an international aerospace exhibition in October 2024, together with aerospace industry cities and specialized companies that participated in the international conference, starting with this inaugural policy forum.

Chairman Ha Chung-yeol stated, “This holds great significance in two aspects: fostering regionally tailored future strategic industries and advancing national policies related to the establishment of the Aerospace Agency. We will do our utmost to identify key factors for nurturing aerospace professionals, establishing supply systems, and attracting domestic and international aerospace specialized companies.”

Assemblyman Ha said, “I expect this to serve as an opportunity to discover future-oriented aerospace specialization business models aligned with the direction of Korea’s space development and to present future tasks and directions for the successful launch of the Gyeongnam Sacheon Aerospace Agency.”

Park Wan-su, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, promised, “As we enter the phase of actively promoting the creation of a space industry cluster starting next year to revitalize the space industry, the significance of this forum discussing aerospace business models and development strategies is very great. Our province will carefully listen to the proposals from this forum and work to turn them into policies.”

Mayor Park Dong-sik said, “It was a valuable and beneficial time to hear the precious opinions of experts leading the space industry,” and urged, “Please continue to show great interest in the Aerospace Agency being established in Sacheon City.”

Meanwhile, the Aerospace Specialization Foundation is a non-profit organization under the Ministry of Science and ICT, established to strengthen the region’s autonomous development capabilities through analysis of the domestic and international aerospace industry structure and status, and to contribute to the creation of an aerospace industry cluster.
