Guro-gu (District Mayor Moon Heon-il) relocated and renovated the Gamasan Senior Citizens' Center in Guro 2-dong and held an opening ceremony on the 19th.
The Gamasan Senior Citizens' Center is a district-run senior center that has been operating since March 31, 2014, by renting about 61㎡ (18 pyeong) of semi-basement space in a detached house (18-6, Gamasan-ro 19-gil) owned by the district.
However, the building was not only aging but also had limited space, making it difficult for the elderly using the center to enjoy a comfortable leisure life.
Accordingly, to relocate the center, the district purchased a detached house of about 138㎡ (42 pyeong) on two above-ground floors (21-8, Gamasan-ro 21-gil) in March last year and carried out renovation work from August last year to November this year.
The relocated and renovated senior center is now operated on both the first and second floors above ground, moving away from the semi-basement. The first floor is designated for grandmothers, and the second floor for grandfathers, providing separate spaces for their comfort.
Before operating the newly renovated center, the district held an opening ceremony on the 19th to commemorate the occasion.
The ceremony was attended by District Mayor Moon Heon-il, senior center officials, and local residents, concluding with a tour of the center, unveiling of the signboard, and commemorative photos.
A Guro-gu official said, “We have created the senior center so that the elderly can use it more conveniently and safely,” adding, “We hope more seniors will enjoy their leisure time at the new center.”
