Nexon's Flagship IP 'MapleStory' Based
November Business Division Personnel Transfers Completed

Nexon's blockchain-specialized subsidiary, Nexon Universe, is in the final stages of organizational integration and is preparing to officially launch next year.

According to the IT industry on the 22nd, Nexon Korea plans to transfer game development assets worth approximately 24.5 billion KRW to Nexon Universe on the 29th. It is estimated that intangible assets such as intellectual property rights (IP) are the main focus. Real estate is not included in the transfer.

This asset transfer is an extension of the business division transfer in November. On the 1st of last month, Nexon Korea transferred its blockchain business division to Nexon Universe. During this process, more than 80 existing employees also moved. In the same month, Nexon Korea participated in a paid-in capital increase of its 100% subsidiary Nexon Universe, supplying liquidity of 125 billion KRW.

Established in 2022, Nexon Universe is led by CEO Kang Dae-hyun, who was recently appointed as co-CEO of Nexon Korea. The company plans to develop a blockchain project called "MapleStory Universe," based on the world of one of Nexon's flagship IPs, "MapleStory." This is an NFT-centered ecosystem project targeting the global market, symbolizing the expansion of the virtual world.

The company is preparing its first title, a new PC-based global massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) called "MapleStory N." A key feature is that players can acquire in-game currency during gameplay and convert it into NFTs. Following this, the company plans to launch the MapleStory sandbox creation platform "MOD N," "MapleStory N Mobile," and the NFT-based app development system "MapleStory N SDK." The workforce is also expanding. Nexon Universe is currently conducting 10 recruitment postings related to the MapleStory Universe on its official website.

A Nexon representative explained, "The personnel transfer took place last month, and the assets necessary for game and platform development have been moved. This officially means that the integration has been completed."
