The National Fire Agency announced on the 21st that it held the '2023 Public-Private Collaboration Fire Safety Welfare Project Performance Report Meeting' the previous day, marking the conclusion of one year of activities with POSCO E&C.
Nam Hwa-young, Commissioner of the Fire Department, is engaging in activities to improve the living environment of old houses.
At the performance report meeting, attended by about 20 people including representatives from POSCO E&C and social welfare facilities, the progress of the 'Fire Prevention Residential Environment Improvement' project was shared, and awards were presented to organizations and individuals who contributed to the fire safety welfare project.
The National Fire Agency and POSCO E&C have been carrying out the 'Fire Prevention Residential Environment Improvement Project' since 2013, targeting fire-vulnerable households such as elderly living alone, to create a fire-safe residential environment through replacing old facilities and installing fire safety equipment.
This year, from May to November, residential environments were improved for 31 elderly single-person households in nine regions including Seoul, Busan, Incheon, and Gyeonggi, and efforts were made to create a safe environment by providing 12 types of fire safety items consisting of home fire safety equipment (fire extinguishers, standalone smoke detectors) along with safety education to 400 households.
In recognition of their contributions to this project, Kim Bong-nam, Manager at POSCO E&C, Kim Seong-hyun, Fire Sergeant at Chungbuk Eumseong Fire Station, and the Chungbuk Eumseong Natural Gas Power Plant construction site (organization) received the Minister of the Interior and Safety Commendation, while the Busan Metropolitan City Gijang-gun Family Center, Sejong Anode Material Phase 2-2 Expansion Construction Site, and Oh Jae-yong, POSCO E&C Management Team Leader, received the Fire Agency Commissioner Commendation.
Kwon Hyuk-min, Director of the Fire Prevention Bureau at the National Fire Agency, stated, “The fire safety welfare project conducted with POSCO E&C is one of the representative achievements of practical fire prevention policies that the public can feel,” and added, “We will continue to expand the fire safety welfare project to create a safe society where no one is left behind and everyone is protected.”
Meanwhile, from 2013 to 2023, the National Fire Agency and POSCO E&C have improved the residential environments of 324 fire-vulnerable households and 11 social welfare facilities, and installed home fire safety equipment in 3,209 households.
