Samsung Biologics Appoints Heo Geun-nyeong as First Senior Outside Director

Samsung Biologics announced on the 20th that it has introduced a Senior Outside Director system and appointed Heo Geun-nyeong as the inaugural Senior Outside Director.

The Senior Outside Director system is a system for selecting a senior outside director to represent outside directors when the CEO or an inside director serves as the chairperson of the board. It was introduced to ensure proper balance and checks and balances.

Heo Geun-nyeong is a lawyer at the law firm Pyeongan and was appointed as an outside director in the legal field of Samsung Biologics in 2019 and reappointed last year. The terms of both the outside director and the senior outside director run until 2025. However, if Heo is reappointed, the term of the senior outside director will also be extended accordingly.

A Samsung Biologics official stated, "This system was introduced to enhance board-centered responsible management by strengthening the independence of outside director activities."
