The Only One Newly Designated in Gyeonggi-do
Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 20th that the 'Hwaseong Boat Play Festival,' held at Jeongok Port as one of the city's representative festivals, has been finally selected as a '2024-2025 Cultural Tourism Festival' designated by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Every year, the Ministry evaluates over 1,200 local festivals nationwide that utilize tourism resources, regional specialties, and traditional culture to commercialize tourism products, selecting outstanding festivals as 'Cultural Tourism Festivals.'
First launched in 2008 and marking its 13th edition this year, the Hwaseong Boat Play Festival was designated as a preliminary Cultural Tourism Festival from 2020 to 2023 and was also selected as a Gyeonggi Tourism Festival for five consecutive years.
In particular, the Hwaseong Boat Play Festival is the only newly designated Cultural Tourism Festival within Gyeonggi Province. It was highly evaluated for planning and operating marine content-centered programs unique to the Boat Play Festival and realizing a participatory festival through expanded local resident participation, contributing to the revitalization of the local economy.
Jung Myung-geun, mayor of Hwaseong City, said, "Through this selection as a Cultural Tourism Festival, we will make every effort to elevate the Boat Play Festival beyond Gyeonggi Province to become a representative festival of South Korea and establish it as a regional brand festival befitting the status of a metropolitan city with a population of one million."
