Former leader Kim was indicted last August on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act for habitually smoking and possessing marijuana collected from a farm in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, from October 2021 to last March.

Admitting all charges, Kim appealed for leniency in court, saying, "I have received education from the Korea Drug Prevention Movement Headquarters and am actively participating in programs for quitting drugs, making earnest efforts."

Kim served as co-chair of the Youth Green Party in 2019, as the Green Party's executive committee chair in 2021, and was elected co-leader of the party in July of the same year before resigning last February.

The prosecution also demanded a prison sentence of 1 year and 6 months for Bae Mo, who was indicted on charges of theft for delivering marijuana to Kim at the farm despite not being the owner. Bae is also charged with smoking marijuana.

The sentencing for these individuals is scheduled to take place at 10 a.m. on January 17 next year.
