Dongseo University LINC 3.0 Project Group to Hold Musical 'Sirang' Showcase on the 23rd Musical 'Sirang' Poster.

The musical ‘Sirang’ is an original musical based on Sirangdae (Mirangdae), one of the eight scenic spots of Gijang in Busan, and is a new musical developed and produced as a musical content for the specialized brand of Gijang-gun.

The story of love between ‘Sirang,’ the daughter of the Dragon King, and ‘Miga’ from the land, along with ‘Hwarim,’ who persistently interferes with the two, and ‘Yeon-i,’ who struggles with conflict between them, conveys a message about true love in this era and overcoming crises through the power of love. This work is a new creation based on the legend of Sirangdae (Mirangdae).

In particular, this work is not a mere reenactment of the existing legend but a restructured piece adapted to modern sensibilities, expected to become a new legend of Gijang-gun. This production holds even greater significance as it is staged as a preparatory performance for the establishment of the Gijang-gun Musical Company, supported by Busan City, Dongseo University, and Busan Technopark.

Kim Bong-gyu, CEO of the production company Hearim Company, stated at the production presentation, “Twenty local actors from Gijang-gun selected for the Evergreen Film University, created through Busan Technopark’s ‘Community Win-Win Cooperation Support Project (Evergreen Project Season 2),’ along with members of Hearim Company, will come together to present a stage harmonizing the local community and arts organizations.”

Also, Oh Se-jun, a Dongseo University professor who serves as both writer and producer, expressed his ambition, saying, “Although it starts as a small showcase, it will grow through the hands of local residents to become a representative tourism brand content of Gijang-gun, contributing to the development and growth of local tourism and cultural content.” Lee Hyun-dong, a professor planning the community win-win cooperation support project at Dongseo University LINC 3.0 Project Group’s Shared Collaboration Center, confidently remarked, “This performance will attract audiences coming from other regions.”

The Evergreen Project, created by Gijang-gun and Dongseo University, has been operating for three years to address the deepening cultural welfare imbalance among regions (and social classes) in Gijang-gun, and is preparing a full-length musical performance scheduled for August next year, making its future endeavors highly anticipated.
