Samhwa Paint Obtains 'UL ECV Recycle Certification' for Mobile Coatings

Samwha Paint Industrial announced on the 20th that it has developed a chemically recycled coating material for mobile devices using waste plastic to establish a resource-circulating society.

The coating material for mobile devices is a recycled product synthesized from chemically recycled raw materials based on pyrolysis oil from waste plastic supplied by LG Chem and raw materials recycled from artificial marble. Chemical recycling is a method of obtaining raw materials by chemically decomposing waste plastic, unlike the mechanical method that simply melts the plastic. It has the advantage of removing impurities to obtain high-purity raw materials.

The coating material for mobile devices received the ECV 2809 Recycled Content (Environmental Claim Validation 2809 Recycled Content) certification from Underwriters Laboratories (UL) in the U.S., becoming the first in the domestic paint industry to be recognized for its eco-friendliness. ECV is an environmental mark granted after verifying the validity of environmental claims of products, such as the usage rate of reusable and recyclable materials.

A representative from Samwha Paint stated, “A systematic eco-friendly resource circulation system is essential for a sustainable planet,” adding, “We plan to build a waste plastic recycling value chain to achieve both resource circulation and profitability.”

Meanwhile, in August, Samwha Paint signed an agreement with LG Chem for the supply of chemically recycled products. They plan to cooperate mutually to establish a resource-circulating society.
