Did They Anticipate Controversy... Deleted After Using 'Bulim Party'
Min Hyung-bae, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, used the term "infertile party" to refer to the People Power Party on his Facebook but later deleted the post.
On the morning of the 20th, Min wrote on Facebook, "The presidential candidate is from the 'Prosecution,' and the emergency committee chairperson is also brought from the 'Prosecution'? The 'infertile party' doesn't even seem embarrassed. Well, they might as well change the party name to 'Power of the Prosecution.' Haha."
This was interpreted as a criticism aimed at Han Dong-hoon, the Minister of Justice. Minister Han, who comes from a prosecution background, is currently being strongly considered as the emergency committee chairperson of the People Power Party.
However, Min seemed to realize that the term "infertile party" could be seen as disparaging to couples struggling with infertility, and shortly after, he revised the sentence "The 'infertile party' doesn't even seem embarrassed" to "That party doesn't even seem embarrassed."
Meanwhile, this kind of expression has caused controversy in politics before. In 2021, Song Young-gil, former leader of the Democratic Party, made a statement in a media interview saying, "The People Power Party has confessed that it is an infertile party itself," after former Board of Audit and Inspection Chairman Choi Jae-hyung and former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl participated in the People Power Party's presidential primary, and later apologized for the remark.
