Gyeongsang National University Glocal College Vision Declaration Ceremony

Aiming for Global Top 10 in Aerospace and Defense Sector

Gyeongsang National University announced on the 20th that it held the ‘Gyeongsang National University Glocal University Vision Proclamation Ceremony’ at the main auditorium of the GNU Convention Center on the Gajwa Campus.

The vision proclamation ceremony was attended by Gyeongsang National University President Kwon Soon-ki, along with the vice president, headquarters officials, academic committee members, heads of affiliated institutions, department heads, the Glocal University project plan writers, faculty and staff, and the student council president.

Outside the university, about 300 people attended, including Park Wan-su, Governor of Gyeongsangnam-do; Kim Jin-bu, Chairman of the Gyeongsangnam-do Council; Jo Gyu-il, Mayor of Jinju; Yang Hae-young, Chairman of the Jinju City Council; Park Dong-sik, Mayor of Sacheon; Kim Nam-kyung, former President of Gyeongnam National University of Science and Technology; Jeong Taek-su, President of the Gyeongsang National University Alumni Association; Kim Jae-kyung, Advisor to the Alumni Association; Kim Jae-gu, President of Gyeongnam Provincial Geochang College; Heo Jeong-seok, President of Geoje College; Jeong Yeon-gil, President of the Korea Institute of Ceramic Engineering and Technology; Kim Nam-gyun, President of the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute; Lee Jeong-hwan, President of the Korea Institute of Materials Science; Ko Young-jin, Chairman of Gyeongnam Ilbo; and Park Sang-beom, Director of KBS Changwon Broadcasting Station. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Lee Ju-ho and Jeon Ho-hwan, President of Dongmyung University, sent congratulatory messages in writing, while National Assembly members Park Dae-chul, Kang Min-guk, Choi Hyung-doo, and Kim Doo-kwan sent video congratulatory messages.

At the proclamation ceremony, Gyeongsang National University declared its vision inside and outside the university as ‘GNU, Glocal No. 1 University, a glocal leading university in the aerospace and defense sectors.’ It also presented the goal of advancing to become a ‘Global Top 10 university and Asia Top 3 university in the aerospace and defense fields.’

President Kwon Soon-ki announced four major strategies to achieve the vision and goals of the project at the vision proclamation ceremony: ▲Openness and Innovation ▲Coexistence and Cooperation ▲Connection and Synergy ▲Selection and Concentration.

President Kwon said, “Through the glocal project in the aerospace and defense sectors, Gyeongsang National University will realistically become the most feasible model for ‘creating 10 Seoul National Universities for balanced national development.’ We will nurture key national industries, regional strategic industries, and university specialization-linked fields to the level of Seoul National University.”

Deputy Prime Minister Lee Ju-ho said, “Being designated as a glocal university itself is a great asset for both the university and the region, and anywhere, just being a glocal university will be recognized for innovation and development potential. Using the glocal university as a catalyst, the region and the university must join forces to attract cooperation and investment from various institutions and organizations, and leap forward into a world-class university through bold and swift innovation. The Ministry of Education, as a true innovation partner, will overcome difficulties together with universities and spare no administrative and financial support for the autonomous innovation of universities.”

Governor Park Wan-su of Gyeongnam said in his congratulatory speech, “I congratulate Gyeongsang National University on being selected for the glocal university project and express my gratitude as a citizen of the province. In any organization, the capabilities of the leader and members are important, but the future of the organization is determined by the will and passion to act. In that regard, I am confident that Gyeongsang National University will greatly develop in the future through the efforts and passion of its excellent president and faculty.”
