Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, was selected as an excellent local government by ranking 5th in overall competitiveness, 2nd in management resources, and 6th in management performance among 69 autonomous districts nationwide in the '2023 Korea Local Autonomy Competitiveness Index (KLCI)'.
On the 19th, the district announced that it received a certificate of excellence in local autonomy competitiveness from the Korea Institute of Public Administration.
The Korea Institute of Public Administration annually investigates and analyzes official statistical data from local governments and government ministries to announce the Korea Local Autonomy Competitiveness Index, an indicator that evaluates the competitiveness of local governments nationwide in three areas: management resources, activities, and performance, as well as the combined overall competitiveness.
In this year's evaluation, which verifies the competitiveness of 226 basic cities, counties, and districts nationwide, Gwangsan-gu ranked 5th nationwide with an overall competitiveness score of 563.2 points, becoming the only autonomous district in Gwangju to be named an excellent local government.
Additionally, it demonstrated excellent competitiveness across all sectors, ranking 2nd nationwide with 192.3 points in the management resources category, which measures human resources, urban infrastructure, and industrial base, and 6th nationwide with 232.1 points in the management performance category.
The district was evaluated as a "sustainable growth city" leading Gwangju's future, characterized by a vibrant and lively city with an average resident age of 39.5 years (2nd nationwide) and a youth population of 14.9% (9th nationwide), as well as hosting the national future car industrial complex and a specialized small and medium parts and equipment complex for autonomous vehicles.
The policy achievements for building a solid economic ecosystem and a sustainable Gwangsan where companies and workers coexist harmoniously?such as the creation of a sustainable job special zone, operation of a corporate support hub center, improvement of industrial complex environments, and support for workplace innovation in small and medium enterprises?emphasized during the 8th elected term, also positively influenced the evaluation.
