AI Summarizes Packed KakaoTalk Conversations

A new feature has been introduced that allows AI to summarize the conversations accumulated in KakaoTalk. The AI also implements tone adjustments suitable for the conversation partner and situation.

On the 18th, Kakao announced the addition of this feature through a KakaoTalk update.

First, a 'Summarize Unread Conversations' button has been added. By using this feature added to the Lab, users can concisely summarize the key points of unread conversations.

A tone-changing feature using AI has also been introduced. By activating the 'Use AI Feature' option added to the Lab, users can use the 'Change Tone' function. KakaoTalk messages can be changed into six different tones: 'Polite', 'Gentle', 'Royal', 'Subject', 'Robot', and 'Emoji'. The change is not indicated in the message, so the conversation partner will not be aware of it.

The AI model used for the conversation summarization and tone-changing features was developed by Kakao Brain, a subsidiary of Kakao. The conversation data used for these features comes from KakaoTalk conversations stored on the user's personal device. During this process, conversation content is neither stored on servers nor used for training.

Since this is the first time Kakao has applied an AI model to the KakaoTalk service, the feature will initially be offered through KakaoTalk Lab rather than as an official function. After gathering user feedback and conducting verification, Kakao will decide whether to officially launch the feature.
