Geumcheon-gu Hosts 2023 Village Community Awards Ceremony 'Ppom'

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it will hold the "2023 Geumcheon-gu Village Community Awards Ppom" at 7 p.m. on the 20th at Geumnarae Art Hall.

Since 2017, the "Village Community Awards Ppom" has been held to encourage the activities of village communities over the past year, carrying the meaning of "an award from the village to the village community." It is hosted by the Geumcheon-gu Village Community Support Center (Center Director Nam Hyun-sook).

This year's awards ceremony was designed so that all participants (communities) could receive awards to create a harmonious space where village communities and activists encourage each other.

The award categories are ▲ "New Community Award" given to organizations that have newly started village activities ▲ "Happy Community Award" given to organizations that steadily operate their organizations ▲ "Community Connection Award" given to organizations that have strengthened communication with other organizations and residents in the area ▲ and "Village Planner Award" given to individuals who have created fresh winds by planning various village projects, totaling four categories.

The three grand prize candidates were selected by a separate judging panel formed by the "Ppom Planning Team," composed of residents. The two teams that do not win the grand prize will receive the excellence award.

The grand prize candidates are ▲ the "Geumcheon Children's Grand Festival Preparatory Committee," which has been organizing the Children's Day festival for 17 years ▲ "Susanghan Cooperative," which connects isolated people in the local community through culture ▲ and "Geumcheon Climate Crisis Emergency Action," which realizes climate justice in daily life through operating a climate school and publishing a climate newspaper.

The grand prize and excellence awards will be decided by combining the results of online preliminary voting (30%) held for seven days from December 11 to 17 and on-site voting (70%) at the awards ceremony.

Center Director Nam Hyun-sook said, "Remembering the brilliant friendship of village activists who have been together for 11 years of village communities, we support the beginning of new communities."

Geumcheon-gu Mayor Yu Seong-hoon said, "I congratulate all village activists who have worked hard for harmony among residents over the past year," adding, "Next year, we will actively support the emergence, gathering, and growth of various communities."
