Mayor Lee Sang-il: "We will create a safe environment for mobile workers"
A 'Mobile Workers' Shelter' where delivery and courier workers, as well as substitute drivers, can rest has opened near Jukjeon Station on the Suin-Bundang Line in Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do.
Yongin City announced on the 16th that it officially began operating the Mobile Workers' Shelter, created on idle land owned by the Railroad Corporation near Jukjeon Station, starting from the 15th.

This was carried out as part of Mayor Lee Sang-il's 8th-term election pledge to create resting spaces for mobile workers who have poor working conditions due to the lack of proper rest areas.
To this end, the city invested 58 million KRW, including provincial and city funds secured through a contest for the installation of simple shelters for mobile workers in Gyeonggi-do last October.
Reflecting the opinions of mobile workers in this area, where commercial districts are densely packed and many mobile workers operate, the city installed a temporary building of 27㎡ in November to provide convenient access to restrooms and has been running a pilot operation.
The shelter is equipped with cooling and heating systems to prepare for heatwaves and cold spells, tables, sofas, water purifiers, and TVs as rest facilities. Wireless internet is provided to allow unrestricted use of mobile devices, and closed-circuit televisions (CCTV) have been installed inside and outside the shelter for security. With support from the Yongin City Labor-Management-Government Council, foot massagers and blood pressure monitors were also provided.
The shelter can be accessed after user authentication using personal credit cards or remote payment functions on mobile phones.
Cleaning and supply management are linked with Yongin City's Hope Dream Job Project to help create employment opportunities for vulnerable groups.
On the day, Mayor Lee visited the shelter with Son Yoon-kyung, Secretary-General of the Rider Union Gyeonggi Branch, Choi Heung-hwan, Head of the National Substitute Driving Labor Union Gyeonggi Branch, and Lee Sang-won, Director of the Yongin City Labor Welfare Center, to inspect the facility status in advance.
The mayor said, "We will continue to pay attention and support so that shelters for mobile workers spread to other areas of Yongin, and strive to create a society where all hardworking citizens are treated fairly."
The city plans to install a bulletin board inside the shelter to provide useful information offered by the government and actively collect users' opinions to improve the shelter's facilities and operations.
