Pohang Urban Traffic Hub and Landmark, 'Dongbindaegyo' Bridge Construction Progressing Smoothly Dongbindaegyo Bridge construction site.

Dongbin Bridge is a 395-meter-long, four-lane sea bridge connecting Songdo-dong in Nam-gu and Hanggu-dong in Buk-gu, Pohang City. Following a construction promotion agreement between Gyeongbuk Province and Pohang City in 2016, construction began in June 2021, and the project is currently in the pier foundation construction phase.

With a total project cost of 73.8 billion KRW, Dongbin Bridge is scheduled for completion in June 2026. Although actual construction started about a year later than planned due to resident complaints, the current progress rate has reached 34%, which is 105% of the planned schedule, indicating steady advancement.

Additionally, compensation for land and obstacles within the construction area and relocation of residents have been completed, further accelerating the construction.

The 64-meter main tower is planned to be completed by February next year, with the deck installation finishing by December of the same year. The city is intensifying efforts to advance the opening date from the original June 2026 to December 2025.

Alongside this, the city plans to comprehensively review the traffic system of surrounding roads in preparation for the opening of Dongbin Bridge. Once completed, the bridge connecting Songdo Beach and Yeongildae Beach is expected to reduce travel time from about 10 minutes to 3?4 minutes.

A Pohang City official stated, “Once Dongbin Bridge opens, it will significantly help reduce commuting times to POSCO and the Steel Management Corporation, as well as improve traffic flow in the city by dispersing traffic volume. It is also expected to serve as a catalyst for revitalizing tourism at Yeongildae Beach in Buk-gu and Songdo Beach in Nam-gu.”
