Gyeonggi Province is promoting the ‘Public Rental Housing Community Revitalization Project’ to improve the quality of life for residents in three public rental housing complexes with more than 3,000 households within the province.
On the 15th, Gyeonggi Province and Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation (GH) held a project kickoff meeting and began preparing community programs tailored to the characteristics of each complex.
The Public Rental Housing Community Revitalization Project is a program supported by Gyeonggi Province with a total of over 700 million KRW in provincial funds from 2023 to 2025 to help revitalize communities in public rental housing and improve the quality of life for actual residents.
Gyeonggi Province previously signed a business consignment contract with GH and selected three complexes as project sites after analyzing the community operation status of public rental housing complexes managed and operated by GH, conducting resident surveys, and considering the types of rental housing.
The selected project sites are ▲Pyeongtaek Seojeongri Station Happy Housing (800 households) ▲Namyangju Dasan Metro Complex 3 (1,257 households) ▲Namyangju Jigeum Desiang (961 households).
GH selected the ‘Seoul Urban Regeneration Social Cooperative’ as the social economy entity to operate the community revitalization project through proposal evaluations and other procedures.
The operating organization will set customized goals for each project site and support the establishment of resident-led community organization foundations and the spread of awareness of activities in stages.
After the kickoff meeting, GH will hold on-site briefing sessions on the community revitalization project for residents of the project sites on the 20th (Pyeongtaek) and 22nd (Namyangju).
Lee Gye-sam, Director of the Urban Housing Office of Gyeonggi Province, said, "Community activities in existing public rental housing have been insufficient, so this project was planned to improve the quality of life for residents. We will strive to restore the community and provide opportunities for a better life."
Meanwhile, the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly passed an amendment to the ‘Ordinance on Supporting the Revitalization of Social Housing in Gyeonggi Province’ in July, allowing social economy entities to operate public rental housing as well.
