Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Ilpyeong Lee) announced that on the afternoon of the 13th, it held the "2023 Disability Rehabilitation Promotion Contest" starting with a lively pungmulnori performance at the auditorium on the 2nd floor of the district office.
The "2023 Disability Rehabilitation Promotion Contest" is an event hosted by the Seoul Association of the Physically Disabled Dongdaemun-gu Branch (Branch President Jungseok Choi). It was organized to promote friendship among people with disabilities and to enhance their will for self-reliance and independence, with about 1,000 disabled participants from the district attending.
The contest was divided into two parts. Following the opening ceremony and introduction of guests as the first order of the first part, awards were presented to meritorious persons with disabilities, and plaques of appreciation were given to those who contributed to the promotion of welfare for the disabled.
Additionally, using the profits generated from the clothing collection management project, living support funds and scholarships of 200,000 KRW per person were provided to 20 members of disabled organizations and their children.
In the second part, the cultural performance featured various performances by disabled group teams, including a Taekwondo demonstration to boost rehabilitation motivation. There were also diverse side events such as singing contest winners’ performances, invited singer performances, and magic shows, along with a raffle that brought joy to the attendees.
A resident of Cheongnyangni-dong who participated in the event said, “Today, I listened to exciting songs and enjoyed many fun performances, and I’m very happy because I even won a prize in the raffle. I hope there will be many more events like this.”
Ilpyeong Lee, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “Seeing everyone enjoying today’s event with the joy of children makes me happy as well,” and added, “In 2024, we will continue to support so that all socially vulnerable groups, including people with disabilities, can be happy.” Together with the attending disabled participants, he shouted, “Fighting!”
