Expectations for African Swine Fever Prevention

Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, is recruiting the ‘2024 Nuisance Wildlife Damage Prevention Team’ until the 22nd to prevent damage to crops and human life caused by nuisance wildlife and to minimize farmers' losses through the establishment of a rapid response system.

The Damage Prevention Team will be responsible for controlling and eradicating nuisance wildlife occurring within the jurisdiction from January 1 to December 31 next year. Their duties include focused trapping of wild boars to prevent the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF), carcass monitoring, poaching surveillance, and the collection of hunting tools.

The targets for capture are nuisance wildlife such as wild boars and water deer, and capture rewards will be provided upon successful trapping.

Eligibility requirements include: ▲ having held a firearm possession permit or hunting license for more than five years (including reacquisition) ▲ having participated in a hunting ground or having a record of nuisance wildlife capture within the last five years from the date of application ▲ not having been penalized for violating the 「Wildlife Protection and Management Act」 within five years from the date of application ▲ and having a registered address in Goseong-gun as of the announcement date (December 14, 2023).

Jung Young-rang, head of the Environmental Division, stated, “Through the operation of the Nuisance Wildlife Damage Prevention Team, we will strive to protect the property and lives of local residents and minimize damage to farms.”

Meanwhile, this year, the county achieved results by capturing approximately 1,100 wild boars and 350 water deer through the operation of the Nuisance Wildlife Damage Prevention Team.
