AI startup Upstage has officially entered the global LLM competition by unveiling Solar, a large-scale pre-trained language model (LLM) developed in-house.
On the 14th, Upstage revealed Solar, a pre-trained LLM that ranked first worldwide on the 'Open LLM Leaderboard' operated by Hugging Face, the world's largest machine learning platform.
Solar is a pre-trained model designed in a compact size to serve as a private LLM suitable for corporate use. It is the world's first 10.7 billion parameter (10.7B) model, achieving a score of 74.2 on the leaderboard evaluation, securing the top position overall. Despite being less than one-sixth the size of Alibaba's latest model Qwen, Solar demonstrated performance that far surpasses it.
Upstage has released not only fine-tuning models with high practical usability but also pre-trained models that can be further trained independently. Companies can use Upstage's Solar model as a base to perform additional training tailored to their own data and objectives, enabling them to build and operate various generative AI services. Furthermore, the Solar model, registered as the main model on the global generative AI platform Poe, will be updated to allow the general public to experience it. Poe, operated by Quora, is a platform where users can interact with various AI models and input desired prompts to create their own chatbots.
Kim Seong-hoon, CEO of Upstage, said, "We are pleased to unveil a model that surpasses global AI companies, and we hope Upstage Solar becomes a model for everyone." He added, "We will continue to promote collaboration in the business-to-business (B2B) market using the Solar model."
