According to the report, this recall targets vehicles produced between October 5, 2012, and December 7 of this year. This means almost all Tesla vehicles sold in the United States are subject to the recall.

This recall follows the determination by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that sufficient measures were not in place to prevent the misuse of Autopilot. NHTSA began an investigation in 2021 after frequent incidents of Tesla vehicles operating with Autopilot colliding with emergency vehicles and others.

As a result of the investigation, NHTSA confirmed that the vehicles lacked adequate devices to alert drivers, creating the potential for misuse, emphasizing that "autonomous driving technology can only guarantee safety when operated responsibly."
