Daegu Suseong Election Commission Files Complaint Against Suseong District Council Member for Giving 13 Umbrellas and 7 Electric Kettles to Pro-Government Organization Chairman

The Daegu Suseong District Election Commission on the 13th reported Councilor A of the Suseong District Council to the Daegu Suseong Police Station on charges of delivering souvenirs such as electric kettles to the heads of government-affiliated organizations in the Suseong District area (violation of election law).


The Daegu Suseong Election Commission stated that A is suspected of arbitrarily taking souvenirs provided to visitors who came to the Suseong District Council last November 11 and delivering them to B, the head of the government-affiliated organizations in the electoral district who attended the kimchi-making event, with the intention of providing them to the members of those organizations.

The items delivered by A to the head of the government-affiliated organization included 7 electric kettles and 13 umbrellas, with a market value exceeding 214,000 won.


Article 113 (Restriction on Donation Activities by Candidates, etc.) Paragraph 1 of the Public Official Election Act stipulates that local council members are prohibited from making any donations to constituents or organizations within their electoral district, and violation of this provision is punishable by imprisonment of up to 5 years or a fine of up to 10 million won under Article 257 Paragraph 1 of the same law.
