Samsung Display is launching a Quantum Dot (QD)-Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) monitor with ultra-high definition (UHD) 3840×2160 resolution.
Samsung Display announced on the 13th that it has officially started mass production of 31.5-inch QD-OLED monitors with UHD resolution this month. This new product achieves the highest pixel density and UHD resolution among self-emissive monitors. It also features the unique functions of self-emissive displays, such as fast response times.

To develop this UHD resolution monitor product, Samsung Display applied ultra-precision inkjet printing technology to the QD emission layer. By optimizing the inkjet nozzles and injection volume, the pixel density was increased to 140 PPI (Pixels Per Inch). A 140 PPI pixel density is equivalent to that of the currently released 65-inch 8K TVs.
A company representative explained, "Since the viewing distance for monitors is closer than for TVs, users are more sensitive to image quality. Currently, self-emissive monitors in the 30-inch range generally have QHD (2560x1440) resolution, so consumers who enjoy gaming and high-quality video content are expected to prefer UHD products."
Along with ultra-high resolution products, Samsung Display plans to aggressively target the rapidly growing gaming monitor market by launching a 27-inch QHD QD-OLED with a 360Hz refresh rate next year, the first of its kind among self-emissive monitors.
The refresh rate indicates how many times the screen can be refreshed per second; the higher the refresh rate, the faster the screen transitions, resulting in smoother and more natural images. Until now, the highest refresh rate for self-emissive monitors has been 240Hz. Samsung Display explained that it has dramatically improved the refresh rate through its proprietary AI-based driving algorithm called Quantum Enhancer.
Samsung Display plans to officially introduce ultra-high resolution and high refresh rate new products starting early next year in collaboration with global clients. Additionally, by expanding its product lineup to include 27-inch, 31.5-inch, 34-inch, and 49-inch models and securing new clients, the company aims to actively capture the premium monitor market and more than double the shipment volume of QD-OLED monitors compared to the previous year.
