Daejeon City Selected for Ministry of SMEs' 'Regional Specialization Project' Contest... Secures 13.6 Billion Won in National Funding

Daejeon City's 'Daejeon Convergence Defense Industry Core Component Company Growth Support' project has been selected for the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' regional specialization project (Legend 50+), receiving national funding of 13.562 billion KRW.


According to Daejeon City on the 13th, this project is a central-local government cooperative initiative aimed at raising the sales proportion of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the domestic economy to over 50% by addressing regional issues and providing support.


SMEs participating in the regional specialization project will receive support such as policy funds, smart factories, manufacturing innovation vouchers, and export vouchers over three years, considering their growth strategies.


Based on the selection results, Daejeon City plans to invest a total budget of 36.9 billion KRW over the next three years to localize core components in defense fields such as sensors, communications, and navigation, and to strengthen corporate competitiveness by increasing sales of local defense companies and creating new markets.


Aligned with the growth strategies of participating companies by technology?sensor convergence surveillance reconnaissance components, multi-control and communication components, and high-precision, high-reliability navigation and electronic warfare components?the support includes ▲funding for technology development and smart factory establishment for core component localization ▲startup consulting and re-acceleration funding for transitioning into the defense sector ▲development technology commercialization funds and export vouchers for advanced military demand customization.


A Daejeon City official stated, “We will strive to secure regional defense core technologies and products through the regional specialization project and to take the lead in related industries. Through this, we aim to drive the substantial growth of local defense SMEs and startups and create an opportunity to leap forward as an advanced defense city.”
