Gyeongbuk Province is actively supporting the digital transformation of local industries by partnering with SIEMENS Digital Industries Software.
On the 13th at 1:30 PM, Gyeongbuk Province will sign a business agreement with Gimcheon City and the Korean branch of SIEMENS Digital Industries Software (Branch Manager Oh Byung-jun) at the Gyeongbuk ICT Innovation Square in Gimcheon City, Gyeongbuk, to establish and expand Digital Twin technology in the region.
This agreement was made to help strengthen the digital capabilities of companies by distributing Siemens’ excellent programs to local industries, in response to the rapidly increasing demand for digital transformation of existing industries due to the development of digital technologies such as metaverse and AI. Siemens is a global leader in digital transformation.
Attending the signing ceremony were Choi Hyuk-jun, Director of the Metaverse Science Bureau of Gyeongbuk Province, Hong Seong-gu, Acting Mayor of Gimcheon City, and Kim Jin-hyuk, Vice President of SIEMENS Digital Industries Software Korea Branch, among others.
The three organizations promised to jointly promote the creation of an innovative ecosystem for the local manufacturing industry through the establishment and expansion of Digital Twin technology in the Gyeongbuk region, as well as the discovery and planning of new projects in the fields of metaverse and Digital Twin.
They also agreed to cooperate on building a regional hub for Digital Twin through resource linkage among the organizations, supporting practical linked education for industrial digital transformation, training specialized Digital Twin personnel, sharing the latest trends and information on metaverse and Digital Twin technologies, and facilitating human exchange and technical support.
Gyeongbuk Province expects this agreement to contribute to improving the productivity of the region’s manufacturing-centered industries.
By providing Siemens’ globally renowned digital transformation solutions to local industrial sites, it is anticipated that companies’ digital transformation capabilities will be enhanced, leading to innovations such as improved data connectivity between processes and reduced manufacturing time. On this day, a plaque of appreciation will also be presented to Chu Hye-sung, CEO of Rehigh Co., Ltd., a local company related to Digital Twin technology.
Rehigh Co., Ltd. is a company that develops cultural heritage and aging building safety management solutions based on Digital Twin technology. Since its establishment in 2021, it has contributed to revitalizing the Digital Twin industry by creating 18 jobs over three years and achieving cumulative sales of 3 billion KRW through social problem-solving service projects linked to Digital Twin technology.
Following the signing ceremony, the Gyeongbuk ICT Convergence Industry Promotion Association (President Choi Yong-jin) will host a session inviting experts from universities and national research institutes to share policies and best practices related to Digital Twin with about 100 stakeholders from local companies and related organizations.
In the keynote lecture, Professor Emeritus Kim Tak-gon of the Department of Electrical Engineering at KAIST will explain the differences between Digital Twin technology and the metaverse, and is expected to present plans for building a new form of metaverse embedded with Digital Twin called the Living Metaverse.
In the subsequent presentation, Nam Chang-soo, Senior Executive Director in charge of SME business strategy at SIEMENS Digital Industries Software Korea Branch, will introduce Siemens’ Digital Twin strategy and cases of production process innovation under the theme “SIEMENS Industrial Metaverse.”
Following this, Jeong Byung-joo, Team Leader of the SOC Balanced Development Team at the National Information Society Agency (NIA), will discuss the Ministry of Science and ICT’s “Infrastructure Digital Twin Expansion and Utilization Foundation Project.” Jang In-seong, Head of the Urban and Spatial ICT Research Lab at the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), will present “ETRI Digital Twin Technology Development Cases.” Nam Hyun-dae, Team Leader of the Gyeongbuk Metaproject Team, will introduce the “Metaverse Capital Gyeongbuk Policy,” and Lim Eon-ho, CEO of local company Amberroad Co., Ltd., will share “Cases of Local Digital Twin Integration.”
Choi Hyuk-jun, Director of the Metaverse Science Bureau of Gyeongbuk Province, said, “In the rapidly growing technology landscape and increasingly complex industrial environment, Digital Twin is a core technology that accelerates digital transformation across local society, including manufacturing, safety, and urban sectors. We will continue to discover various projects to widely apply advanced technologies like Digital Twin that can lead industrial structure advancement to local industrial sites.”
