Groundbreaking of Large Public Sports Facilities Including 2nd Sports Town, Building Sports Infrastructure
Large-scale public sports facilities being developed in Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, are all set to begin construction within the year, accelerating the establishment of sports infrastructure.
According to the county on the 11th, construction will start this month on Haenam Sports Park, the Complex Sports Culture Center, and Gugyo Gymnasium.
Haenam Sports Park, being developed as the second sports town of Haenam-gun, will be built in the Pyeonghwal-ri area of Samsan-myeon, Haenam-eup, with a total budget of 14.1 billion KRW.
The sports park will feature various sports facilities including one baseball field, one multipurpose field (baseball + soccer), and one soccer field, and is scheduled to open in 2025.
During the design phase, consultations were held with the Korea Football Association (KFA) and the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) to create stadiums with optimal playing conditions, and it is expected that the full operation will mark a new turning point for Haenam’s sports marketing.
The Complex Sports Culture Center construction project will invest a total budget of 10.8 billion KRW to build a sports culture center with a total floor area of 2,910㎡ in the Sinan-ri area of Haenam-eup. It is scheduled for completion in 2025.
The center aims to create a public sports space where both disabled and non-disabled people can conveniently use the facilities anytime within their living area, featuring a gym specialized for the disabled and a small library.
The county expects this to promote the activation of physical activities among the disabled population, which accounts for 11% of the total population, and to enhance mutual exchange as an open multi-purpose space for residents.
The Gugyo Gymnasium construction project, with a total investment of 9.8 billion KRW, will build a multipurpose gymnasium and a youth counseling center in Gugyo-ri, Haenam-eup, with one basement floor and two above-ground floors.
This project, selected through the Living SOC competition and currently underway, plans to establish new sports facilities in the Gugyo district, where the population is continuously increasing, allowing residents to use them at any time. It is designed to serve not only as a sports facility but also as a venue for cultural and artistic events, and as an emergency relief and evacuation shelter in case of various disasters and accidents.
Inside, a youth counseling center and sports culture space will be created, which is expected to help provide a foundation for the creative and proactive growth of young people.
Haenam-gun expects that the installation of large-scale public sports facilities will greatly enhance the professionalism and accessibility of residents’ recreational sports, and based on this, secure competitiveness in attracting training camps and sports competitions.
A county official said, “Haenam Sports Park, the Complex Sports Culture Center, and Gugyo Gymnasium will be opportunities to take Haenam-gun’s sports culture to the next level,” adding, “We will successfully complete the construction so that all residents can enjoy sports life up close, and put more effort into revitalizing sports marketing, which Haenam-gun is focusing on.”
