Ando-geol, Former Vice Minister of Economy and Finance, Joins Democratic Party... "Will Revive Economy Stuck in Recession"

Press Conference for Joining the Democratic Party at the National Assembly

Former Vice Minister of Strategy and Finance Ando Geol held a "Democratic Party Admission Press Conference" at the National Assembly Communication Office in Seoul on the 11th, stating, "In response to the Democratic Party's request and expectations, I will correct the government's misguided economic policies as an 'economic and fiscal expert' and revive the economy trapped in a swamp of stagnation."

He also expressed his ambition to devote himself wholeheartedly to discovering and implementing policy alternatives that can smooth out the wrinkles of people's livelihoods.

At the press conference, a congratulatory message from Party Leader Lee Jae-myung was delivered through Supreme Council Member Park Chan-dae. Along with Park, who hosted the event, former floor leader Park Hong-geun, Party Leader’s Political Coordination Office Chief Kim Young-jin, Party Spokesperson Park Sung-jun, Floor Policy Deputy Leader Yoo Dong-su, and Assemblyman Hwang Hee, who served as Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, attended and expressed their significance and expectations regarding former Vice Minister An’s admission.

Former Vice Minister An emphasized, "I will devote all my efforts to expanding the Democratic Party's governing capabilities and policy competencies," adding, "Above all, by securing the passionate support of the people in next year's general election and achieving a landslide victory, I will become a valuable seed to correct the current government's failures and lay the foundation for a regime change."

He further expressed his conviction to practice a new kind of politics that the Korean people hope for by leveraging the experience and capabilities he has accumulated over 34 years as an economic and fiscal public official: 'politics for the people' that solves livelihood issues, 'politics of coexistence' that pursues communication and harmony, and 'politics of vision' that opens the country's future with good policies.

He also stated, "Today, I have taken my first step into the new realm of politics and have become a member of the Democratic Party family," emphasizing, "As I deeply understand the special meaning and unique admission procedures the Democratic Party assigns to my joining, I will do my best to contribute to the party's development."

Former Vice Minister Ando Geol added, "We are facing significant internal and external challenges such as the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the US-China technological hegemony war, climate change and energy transition, and low birthrate and aging population," and pledged, "I will devote myself to turning these crises into opportunities for a new leap forward for the Republic of Korea."
