At Age 62... "Weakened by Chronic Illness"
Found at Home in Itaewon-dong, Yongsan-gu
The eldest son of the late former Prime Minister Kim Jong-pil (JP), Kim Jin, chairman of the Unjeong Scholarship Foundation, has passed away at the age of 62.
According to the Kim Jong-pil Memorial Foundation on the 11th, police who responded to a report from his wife that "he could not be reached" found Chairman Kim deceased at his home in Itaewon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul on the 4th.
It is known that he lived alone in Korea while his children were working in the United States.

According to foundation officials, Chairman Kim had been suffering from a chronic illness. The foundation stated, "Chairman Kim suddenly passed away while in a greatly weakened condition."
The Unjeong Scholarship Foundation, named after JP's pen name, was established by former Prime Minister Kim, a native of Buyeo, Chungnam, in 1991 with a capital of over 1 billion won to support research funds for local students and teachers, aiming to nurture future talents who contribute to national and regional development. Chairman Kim had served as the chairman of the Unjeong Scholarship Foundation since 2011.
Chairman Kim married Mrs. Lydia Marroquin, a Guatemalan national whom he met while studying at Utah State University in the United States, and they had two sons and one daughter.
The funeral is being held at Soonchunhyang University Hospital in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, with the funeral service scheduled for the morning of the 12th. The burial site is Seongnam Yeongsaengwon in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province. Surviving family members include his wife, sons Inyoung and Jiyoung, and daughter Miyoung.
