Seongdong-gu Recruits 2,175 Senior Job Positions Including Meal Assistants Elderly Volunteers Working as School Meal Assistants

Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) is recruiting 2,175 participants for the 2024 senior job program until the 15th of this month.


The senior job sectors include a total of 42 projects such as the public interest activity type, which involves participation for self-satisfaction and community public interest enhancement; the social service type, which provides services in areas requiring social assistance by utilizing experience; and the market type, which operates year-round with business profits.


The number of recruits by sector is ▲1,630 for the public interest activity type ▲454 for the social service type ▲91 for the market type, totaling 2,175, an increase of 294 compared to the previous year.


The public interest activity type is open to basic pension recipients aged 65 or older residing in Seongdong-gu. Selected participants will engage in 18 projects such as elementary and middle school meal assistants, smart shelter keepers, and school zone traffic guidance projects.


The social service type applicants must be aged 65 or older, and the market type applicants must be aged 60 or older. The social service type will work as senior elevator safety teams, childcare facility assistants, etc., while the market type will work at places like Seoul Forest Cafe or joint workshops. However, recipients of livelihood benefits among basic livelihood security recipients, and those participating in government and local government job projects are excluded from applying.


Seniors wishing to participate in the senior job program can visit one of the seven implementing agencies, including the local community service centers, the Seongdong-gu branch of the Korea Senior Citizens Association, and the Seongdong Senior Welfare Center, to submit an application form by the 15th of this month. Online applications are also available through the Bokjiro website, and for more details, inquiries can be made to the Senior and Disabled Welfare Division of Seongdong-gu Office.


Selected job participants will begin full activities from January next year. The public interest activity type involves 30 hours of monthly activity with a maximum activity allowance of 290,000 KRW. The social service type involves 60 hours of monthly activity with a payment of 634,000 KRW, and the market type receives wages according to the employment contract from business operation profits.


Seniors participating in the senior job program must complete mandatory annual education. Additionally, as the number of participants increases significantly, the district plans to strengthen safety accident prevention education.


Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, "I hope seniors can engage in economic activities through job participation and enjoy communicating with fellow seniors. We will strive to ensure that seniors can work in a safe environment as much as they participate."
