Gwangju, Jeonnam, and Cheongju Experience 'Hottest Winter'... Record High Temperatures in December

As warm spring-like winds flowed in, many areas in Gwangju and Jeonnam, as well as Cheongju, recorded the highest temperatures ever recorded in December.

The Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration announced on the 9th that relatively warm southwesterly winds continued to flow in, raising daytime temperatures in most parts of Gwangju and Jeonnam by about 1 to 2 degrees compared to the previous day, and about 10 degrees higher than the average, resulting in mild weather.

In particular, many areas in Jeonnam, including Gwangju, recorded the highest daily maximum temperatures ever recorded in December, and some places broke the record for the highest temperature for two consecutive days.

On that day, Haenam recorded the highest temperature at 21 degrees Celsius, followed by Suncheon at 20.5 degrees, Jangheung at 20.4 degrees, and Jindo at 20.3 degrees, with most areas in Jeonnam experiencing the highest daily maximum temperatures in December since weather observations began.

Gwangju recorded 19.9 degrees Celsius the previous day, setting the highest temperature ever recorded in December, but on this day, it broke the record again by reaching 20.2 degrees Celsius, and in Jeonnam, Gwangyang (20.4 degrees), Gangjin (20.2 degrees), and Boseong (19.7 degrees) also broke their records for two consecutive days.

The daytime temperature in Cheongju also rose to 19.6 degrees Celsius, breaking the highest daily maximum temperature in December since observations began in February 1967. This is 0.3 degrees higher than the previous record of 19.3 degrees Celsius set the day before.

Other areas in the province, such as Boeun (19.1 degrees), Chungju (18.6 degrees), and Jecheon (16.9 degrees), also recorded the highest daily maximum temperatures in December on that day.
