Huawei's Entry into Charging Market: "100,000 Ultra-Fast Chargers to be Installed Next Year"

China's largest telecommunications equipment company, Huawei, has announced its entry into the electric vehicle charging market, according to the Beijing Daily on the 9th.

Hou Jinlong, chairman of Huawei Digital Energy Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Huawei Group, stated at the "World New Energy Vehicle (Electric Vehicle, Hybrid Vehicle, Hydrogen Vehicle) Conference" held on the 7th in Haikou, Hainan Province, "Next year, we will install more than 100,000 'full liquid-cooled (全液冷)' ultra-fast chargers in over 340 cities across China," adding, "We will ensure high-quality charging wherever there are roads."

Full liquid-cooled ultra-fast charging is a new battery charging method that creates a circulation channel inside the electric vehicle charging cable and injects and circulates a cooling liquid to dissipate heat generated during the charging process, enabling rapid charging. It is praised for its excellent heat dissipation effect, noise reduction during charging, and eco-friendliness.

He emphasized, "Carbon neutrality is now shifting from a shared global awareness to concrete action, and the electrification of transportation networks is a key area for achieving carbon neutrality goals." He continued, "We will focus on the symbiotic development of new energy vehicles and charging networks to accelerate the full electrification of the automotive industry."

He also said, "Inconvenient charging, range anxiety, and low cost-effectiveness are major factors causing hesitation in choosing new energy vehicles," adding, "If ultra-fast chargers are installed within a radius of 1 to 2 km in cities and at all highway rest stops and gas stations, charging issues and range anxiety can be resolved."

He added, "Huawei has started mass production this year of 'Drive One,' a high-efficiency, high-voltage electric drive platform that can drive 200 km with just 5 minutes of charging," and said, "We will continue to shorten charging times."

China has been focusing on fostering new energy vehicles through tax reductions and subsidy support. From January to November this year, sales of new energy vehicles in China reached 7.74 million units, a 35% increase compared to the same period last year. Annual sales are expected to reach 8.5 million units this year, raising the market penetration rate to 36%. However, the expansion of infrastructure such as charging facilities has been slow, which has been pointed out as an obstacle to the wider adoption of electric vehicles, which account for about 70% of new energy vehicle sales.
