Yeongyang-gun, Unstoppable Relay Campaign ... Continued Enthusiasm for Attracting Pumped Storage Power Plant

Autonomous Participation by Groups... Securing Momentum for Recruitment Activities

Yeongyang-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, continues to fuel the passion for attracting the ‘Yeongyang Pumped Storage Power Plant’ through a nonstop relay campaign at the Yeongyang-eup Registry Office intersection, despite the season having changed three times.

Yeongyang-gun, Unstoppable Relay Campaign ... Continued Enthusiasm for Attracting Pumped Storage Power Plant Yeongyang-gun continues the fervor of hoping to attract a pumped-storage power plant through an unceasing relay campaign.

The relay campaign is organized by the ‘Countywide Citizens’ Committee for Attracting the Pumped Storage Power Plant in Yeongyang-gun,’ chaired by Yang Bong-cheol, and has been ongoing without pause at least once a week since June 7. Local organizations wishing to participate join the countywide committee to maintain the momentum of the power plant attraction efforts.

In particular, the 44th campaign held on the 8th added significance as over 40 participants, including the chairpersons and executive members of the countywide citizens’ committee, gathered to raise public awareness ahead of the final candidate site announcement scheduled for the last week of December and to reaffirm their determination to secure the site.

Before the full-scale campaign, the countywide citizens’ committee conducted two pilot sessions targeting the ‘Yeongyang-gun Saemaeul Association’ and the ‘Yeongyang-gun Council for the Promotion of Right Living,’ which received great support from residents and has continued to this day. The campaign will also continue until the final announcement of the preferred developer selection.

Above all, with the participation of the countywide citizens’ committee, many organizations applied as the burden of campaign preparation was minimized. Utilizing distinctive promotional items such as umbrellas and fans, the campaign has established itself as a representative attraction activity of Yeongyang-gun.

Moreover, the campaign is not limited to a specific location; requests from organizing groups during various events where residents gather have led to cooperation with the countywide citizens’ committee to hold separate resolution meetings, significantly contributing to sustaining the momentum of the attraction activities.

Additionally, in consideration of neighboring cities and counties, the campaign was suspended for about a month to share the pain of residents in Bonghwa-gun and Yeongju-si, who suffered from heavy rain damage in July, demonstrating exemplary attraction activities.

Yang Bong-cheol, the standing chairman, said, “The time for the final decision is drawing near, and I sincerely thank all the organization members who have participated in the relay campaign with unwavering dedication over the past eight months. We will do our best to return to our original intention and achieve a successful conclusion in the remaining period.”

Governor Oh Do-chang stated, “The reason we have been able to continue the attraction activities successfully so far is that local organization members have voluntarily participated in the relay campaign with a firm determination to attract the pumped storage power plant despite their busy schedules. I ask for the continued interest and support of all residents so that the pumped storage power plant can be successfully attracted to Yeongyang-gun in the remaining period.”
