Signing of Industry-Academia Cooperation MOU to Secure Top Talent
Choi Jung-woo "POSCO Vietnam Corporation Contributes to Economic Development of Both Countries"
POSCO Group is collaborating with a Vietnamese university to secure local talent.
On the 7th, Choi Jeong-woo, Chairman of POSCO Group, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for industry-academia cooperation to secure outstanding talent for the Group's Vietnam subsidiaries with Ngo Thi Phuong Lan, President of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities at Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities is a college under Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, the second largest national university in Vietnam, and is the top undergraduate institution in the humanities and social sciences in southern Vietnam.
Through this MOU with Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, POSCO Group plans to secure excellent talent early for the future competitiveness of its Vietnam subsidiaries through local internship programs and scholarship projects. They also plan to expand humanities exchanges by fostering POSCO-style customized talent through talent exchanges linked with the humanities and social sciences department at POSTECH.
At the signing ceremony, Choi Jeong-woo, Chairman of POSCO Group, said, "The role of outstanding local talent has been crucial to the growth of POSCO Group's Vietnam subsidiaries. Through this industry-academia cooperation with Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, the Group's Vietnam subsidiaries will secure excellent talent early and become the top local companies that can contribute to the economic development of both countries."
President Ngo Thi Phuong Lan said, "Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City operates a Korean Studies department and plans to establish a Korean Business Administration department (tentative name) soon. Through cooperation with POSCO Group, the world's leading eco-friendly future materials company, we will nurture talent that is essential not only for POSCO but also for Korean companies."

Immediately after the event, Chairman Choi met with Nguyen Thanh Tung, President of Ba Ria Vocational School in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, where POSCO Group's Vietnam steel subsidiaries signed an industry-academia cooperation MOU last August, to review the progress of the cooperation. Under the 'Industry-Academia Cooperation MOU for Training Excellent Steel Field Professionals,' Ba Ria Vocational School plans to offer courses including steel technology, Korean language, Korean culture, and corporate citizenship?subjects required by POSCO Group?starting February next year. POSCO's Vietnam steel subsidiaries plan to hire outstanding graduates and develop them into core field personnel.
At this meeting, Chairman Choi emphasized, "Through the industry-academia cooperation program, schools should nurture customized talent suited for manufacturing sites, and companies should create a virtuous cycle by securing talent and fostering them into core personnel through development programs such as dispatching to global production bases."
POSCO Group opened its Vietnam office in 1991, one year before the establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and Vietnam, and currently owns a total of eight subsidiaries, including POSCO Vietnam, which produces cold-rolled steel sheets.
POSCO Group's local subsidiaries in Vietnam support scholarships annually for underprivileged groups and high-achieving students through a 1% sharing fund. Approximately 790 students from local prestigious universities, including Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, were selected as POSCO Cheongam Foundation scholarship recipients and supported under the 'POSCO Fellow Vietnam' program.
