National Assembly Adopts Resolution Urging Immediate Halt to North Korea-Russia Arms Trade

On the 8th, the National Assembly adopted a resolution urging the suspension of arms transactions between North Korea and Russia during the plenary session.


The resolution calls for the immediate cessation of arms transactions between the two countries and urges Russia to faithfully implement the UN Security Council sanctions against North Korea.


The resolution titled "Resolution Urging the Suspension of Arms Transactions and Weapons Technology Cooperation Violating UN Security Council Resolutions between Russia and North Korea," jointly proposed by Tae Young-ho, a member of the People Power Party, was passed with 138 out of 152 attending members voting in favor. One member from the Democratic Party, Yoo Jung-joo, opposed it, while 13 members, including Democratic Party members Kang Min-jung, Min Hyung-bae, Heo Sook-jung, and Progressive Party member Kang Sung-hee, abstained.


The National Assembly also adopted a resolution urging a peaceful resolution to the armed conflict between Israel and Hamas. The resolution condemns Hamas's indiscriminate killing of civilians at the National Assembly level and calls for the release of detained civilians, a peaceful ceasefire, and humanitarian aid within the Gaza Strip.


A "Resolution Urging the Change of the East Sea Designation" was also adopted, calling on neighboring countries of the Korean Peninsula, including the United States and China, to change their policy of labeling the East Sea as the "Sea of Japan."


Additionally, special resolutions commemorating the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Germany and between Korea and the United Kingdom, aimed at the continuous development of bilateral relations, were respectively approved.
