"Democrats Have Not Issued an Official Apology as of This Day"
Yoon Jae-ok, the floor leader of the People Power Party, directly blamed the previous government's flawed North Korea policy as the root cause behind the audit results from the Board of Audit and Inspection (BAI), which revealed that the government neglected the situation and concealed and distorted facts during the 'West Sea Public Official Killing (Shooting) Incident.'
At the floor leaders' meeting held at the National Assembly on the 8th, Yoon said regarding the audit result that the related agencies at the time knew that Lee Dae-jun was found in North Korean waters but did not request a rescue, "If the failure to protect the lives of the people was due to negligence rather than accident or force majeure, this is clearly aiding and abetting murder and a betrayal of the state's duty."

The BAI announced the audit results the previous day concerning the 'West Sea Public Official Killing Incident,' targeting nine agencies including the Ministry of National Defense and the Coast Guard. The BAI concluded that the Moon Jae-in administration deleted data to conceal the incident and unjustly announced voluntary defection to the North.
Yoon pointed out that the related agencies tried to cover up the incident, saying, "It is inhumane and barbaric violence for the nation's key security agencies to collude and label a single citizen as a traitor like this," and emphasized, "Behind all this incompetence, neglect, conspiracy, distortion, and state violence was the Moon Jae-in administration's distorted North Korea policy aimed at somehow pleasing the Kim Jong-un regime."
He then criticized the Democratic Party for raising doubts about the BAI's audit results. Yoon said, "Despite the truth being like this, the Democratic Party attacked the BAI by mentioning North Korea scare tactics and pro-North Korea accusations," adding, "This is a typical outdated colorism and a distortion of the essence."
Yoon continued, "Until now, the Democratic Party has never officially apologized or asked for forgiveness from the people regarding this incident," and urged, "I hope the Democratic Party acknowledges responsibility and shows a reflective attitude. Denying the audit results, sunk in factional logic and political interests, constitutes secondary harm to the bereaved families," calling for an apology from the Democratic Party.
