According to the fire department on the 8th, a man in his 50s, Mr. A, suddenly collapsed while hiking at Bukhansan Mountain on the 24th of last month.
Four fellow nurses working at a university hospital in Seoul heard cries of "Please save him" and immediately ran over to perform CPR.
Subsequently, the mountain rescue team and the 119 rescue squad arrived and transported the patient to the hospital by helicopter.
It was reported that Mr. A had been suffering from angina. He is currently receiving hospital treatment and has safely returned home.
After returning home, Mr. A sent a text message to the nurses saying, "I am OOO who survived at Bukhansan," and expressed his gratitude by saying, "I contacted you to thank you for saving my life."
The nurses replied, "We are really glad you survived safely," and added, "Please take good care of your health and stay well."
In an interview, Mr. A said, "If those four were not there, it would have been difficult to revive me again," and "I will cherish the heart with which they saved me."
A representative from the Bukhansan Special Mountain Rescue Team of the Korea National Park Service said, "Because nurses, paramedics, and trained rescue team members were all present at the accident scene, high-quality emergency treatment was possible."
Meanwhile, angina is caused by the narrowing of the coronary arteries that supply blood to the heart muscle, resulting in insufficient blood flow and pain. It is characterized by a tight or uncomfortable feeling in the chest during strenuous exercise or when climbing stairs.
According to statistics from the National Health Insurance Service, 710,764 people received treatment for angina in 2021. Medical expenses amounted to 1.039 trillion won. This is a significant increase compared to 645,772 patients and 770.4 billion won in 2017.
