Awards Ceremony Held at Gangbuk-gu Childcare Support Center on the 6th at 3 PM... 40 Honorees Including Experience Essay Winners and Volunteer Service Contributors
Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) successfully concluded the ‘2023 Volunteer Day Commemoration Event’ held on the 6th to encourage volunteers who have devoted themselves to the local community throughout the year.
The event took place at 3 p.m. in the large auditorium on the first floor of the Gangbuk-gu Childcare Support Center (9 Insubong-ro 66-gil, Gangbuk-gu), gathering volunteers of various ages from 11-year-old elementary students to 78-year-old seniors in one place.
On this day, the district honored a total of 40 volunteers to express gratitude for their sharing and service, including ▲4 winners of the volunteer activity experience essay contest (certificates) ▲31 volunteers with meritorious service (commendations) ▲5 volunteers who have served over 3,000 hours (certification medals).
The winners of the volunteer activity experience essay contest were Yoon Ju-young (Grand Prize, 56), Park Geum-jun (Excellence Award, female, 61), Oh Hyun-seo (Encouragement Award, 16), and Kim Ju-hyun (Encouragement Award, female, 53), totaling four people.
Among them, Yoon Ju-young, who began as a social worker in 2006 by opening a study room (currently a community child center) to care for children in need in the community, shared stories of volunteer activities such as campaigns to eradicate harmful businesses and filial service activities for seniors, earning the honor of the Grand Prize.
The commendations for volunteer meritorious service were awarded to 31 recipients, including 22 adult volunteers, 5 youth volunteers, 1 volunteer organization, and 3 volunteer service recipients.
The volunteer certification medals were awarded to five individuals: Jin Bok-hee (5,244 hours, female, 54), Song In-seol (3,401 hours, female, 60), Jang Eun-sook (3,180 hours, female, 58), Kim Mu-yeon (3,106 hours, female, 70), and Kim Bok-hee (3,002 hours, female, 63).
The district plans to separately deliver medals and commendations to nine medal recipients who could not attend the ceremony, including Lee Ki-ha (89), who has volunteered for 20,401 hours since February 2002, and two recipients of volunteer meritorious service commendations.
Lee Soon-hee, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said, “Volunteers who selflessly dedicate themselves to helping neighbors in need are the true strength of Gangbuk-gu,” adding, “I am grateful for the dedication and efforts of the volunteers, which cannot be fully expressed by certificates and medals.”
